Our first view of san Marino was taking the back roads from Riminni where we crested a rise and there she was in all her glory atop a Mesa with its three Towers standing proud above the walls. It really made the mystique of this Republic all the more understandable when considering the daunting task of taking on the Sammarinese.

After winding up the mountain side for a good 15 mins we arrived at the designated meeting place and rolled our bags over the cobbkled road to the Titano Suites in the centre of town. Such a great location and being on the top floor with insane views and a huge terrace with a Jaccuzi Spa was a good choice.

Looking out over the roof tops of this medieval Fortress city as it casacades down the cliff faces, and looking into rooftop terraces and gardens gives areal insight into the daily life of this unique place. The centre of life here is around the Palazzo Pubblico on Piazza della Liberta, it being the parliament of the Republic with the statue of Liberty dominating the square.

We enjoyed amazing sunsets every night but its always the first that stands out and with the silhouettes of the Apenine mountains standing tall in the background the scene changed constantly for a good hours that was just mesmerising. Walking around this small city was enchanting and so easy to do and also great for the step and stair count.

The cameos were at every turn and clearly the townsfolk know how to keep the tourists interested.

The promenades and public spaces were in abundance and it was clearly a place that has been well maintined this past 70 years foollowing on from its trials through WW2.

Looking back to the Adriatic coast of Italy and the city of Rimini in the distance on a full moon evening was like a fairyland and when you see the relief map of the fortified old hilltop town the context of its independant republic becomes clear.

The sculptures in San mariono are dominated by the female forn and probably has something to do with Liberty as well as the trials and tribulations of life in the Republic.

Night time and everything is well lit to reflect the substance of the place as well as its solidity.

The Hotel Tabiano Suites and our top floor suite and terrace to the right along with more sculptures and a Japanese Peace bell recognition with San Marino.

Liberty and Ann with her duty free ring, which is a very big business in san marino.

The fabulous Pianello park and view and walking the steets never gets tiring.

The Republic of San Marino has its three Towers as its symbol along side Liberty and there is a walkway that links them for those wanting explore. Each has its own charm and below is the view from Tower 2 to Tower 1which really highlights the sheer cliffs on the eatern side.

On top of each Tower is the Ostrich feather metal sculpture which is part of the history but is also a weather wane.

Tower one was the main citedal, and a formidable structure it was with comanding vision over the whole region.

Living the Anti-pasto life at Titiano Suites

The history mueum was small but had some amzing Byzantine jewellery and of course copious models of Liberty.

The Libertas symbol and fountain dedicated to the American people for bring piped water to the city in the 1950’s.

The Palazzo Publico is small but so is the Republic so very appropriate in size.

We loved our time in san marino and took the time to slow down and chill abit for three days.
